Common Appliances That Run On Battery Or Mains allows learners to show what they knew before beginning this topic and what they have learned once the topic has been taught. This is a great sorting activity which looks at different appliances and objects around the home, classroom and their environment. The images provided can be cut out and placed in their categories of mains-electric cable or battery power. Providing children with a solid understanding that a battery contains stored up electric power which does run out once the power has all been used up. It also assesses their understanding of how a plug with an electric cable connects the appliance directly to a source of electricity, which then gives it instant power. This activity supports Year 4 KS2 children in their Science and Electricity topic and is in line with the 2014 curriculum.
