Communication ‘I Want’ Board

This is a great activity to support learners who find communication difficult, not all children can make their needs known verbally.  This board allows children to select what they want/need, allowing them to communicate more effectively with others.  The board can be laminated and velcro placed on the squares.  The different illustrations can be cut out and laminated and a selection of them placed on the ‘I want’ board for the child to choose from, the most common needs for individual children can be placed on the board.  You can also add your own photographs and use those to make it more personal to the child.  This is a great tool to support early communication and give children with special educational needs who struggle with verbal understanding the tools to get their message heard.
