Year 1 Writing
Year 1 writing has a strong focus on letter formations, beginning in the correct places and forming letters to make them legible. Sentence building is a skill which is learned, reading back what has been written to ensure it makes sense. A range of punctuation is introduced such as full stops, capital letters and question marks. Many spellings are often written phonetically using the skills learned from the phonics phase
