This is a lovely way to help children with place value, using the towers of 10 and the cubes of one, these can be called ‘sticks n stones’ to make them more child friendly. Every stick is a 10 and every stone is a one. When thinking of them as sticks and stones, it can often become a little easier. These activities support children in their understanding of place value.
